Production Sr. Scientist
At Gen9, we are transforming Synthetic Biology through our high-volume, automated next generation synthesis of DNA constructs and libraries. We are looking for a Production Sr. Scientist with the right combination of molecular biology expertise, manufacturing and automation experience, and can-do attitude to join our rapidly growing team.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in the transfer, validation and implementation of new processes and products into manufacturing.
- Sustain and continuously improve the processes through manufacturing best practices.
- Lead failure analysis and troubleshooting activities through methodologies like six-sigma.
- Flexibility to provide process support across shifts on an as-needed basis.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS, MS (PhD a plus) degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or Biomedical Engineering with 3-5+ years of hands-on experience in high-throughput manufacturing or core lab environment.
- Demonstrated expertise with molecular biology protocols including DNA amplification and other enzymatic processes, gene synthesis, next generation sequencing, bacteria culturing and plasmid prep and a deep understanding of related reagents.
- Experience with automated fluid handling platforms.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact with customers, fellow employees, and senior management.
- Demonstrated use of SPC, DOE, and Failure Analysis techniques.
- Ability to work independently and as part of team in a fluid, fast-paced environment.
- Exposure to Six-Sigma and Lean Manufacturing a plus

Product Applications Scientist
Would you like to work for an innovative company that is fueling the Synthetic Biology Revolution? Gen9 is seeking an individual who has a molecular biology background, can work with customers, enjoys troubleshooting, and doesn’t mind picking up a pipet once in a while. The Product Applications Scientist will support our diverse and rapidly growing customer base. This person will be a key member of the customer support team, working with sales and marketing, manufacturing and R&D. Gen9’s BioFab® platform won Top Innovation of the year in 2012, and we are having a remarkable 2013.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with customers to understand their needs
- Provide hands-on assistance to customers as needed
- Support the sales organization as a technical expert
- Work internally to assure that Gen9 products meet customer needs
- Take the lead on customer technical discussions
- Educate customers on best practices
- Identify KOLs and assist them in evaluating our pre-launch portfolio of products
- Work with Marketing on all customer facing documents
- Give technical presentations to support Sales
- Represent the company at meetings, conferences and trade shows
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in biological sciences, genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry or related field; PhD. helpful.
- Experience supporting customers preferred.
- Able to troubleshoot, and think on their feet.
- Strong molecular biology skills.
- Comfortable explaining technical material across to a disparate range of potential customers.
- Ability to quickly define problems, draw conclusions and develop a plan to rectify the situation
- Customer oriented, and always represent the customer’s needs within the organization
- Strong organizational, communication, and presentation skills
- Independent and strategically minded
- Ability to balance multiple priorities and projects

Senior Software Engineer
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and development of platform and associated componentry for web-based applications including:
- Design for data organization, navigation, and human interaction
- Visualization and analysis of data
- Collaboration with end users
- AWS cloud development
- Contribution to workflows and pipelines for production and data analysis
- Provide software tools support for research, manufacturing and production
- Code base maintenance (documentation, testing, revision control)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS, MS, or PhD in computer science, bioinformatics, physics, biology, or related degree
- 3+ years of industry experience preferably in a biology, genomic or biotechnology company
- 3+ years experience designing, using and developing within UNIX/Linux environments
- Demonstrated proficiency with Python
- Strong communication, documentation, and presentation skills
- Physical presence at site in Cambridge, MA (no telecommuting)
- Authority to work in the USA
- Familiarity with biology is not required, but beneficial
